today after much doubt and descision making i made my way up to bury via doncaster and manchester piccadilly to get to the East Lancashire Railway. today they were holding a special steam spectacular event.
Locos in use were
70013 oliver cromwell
30777 sir lamiel (both visiting from the NRM/GCR/5305asc)
71000 duke of gloucester
44871
47324
32 gothenburg
While the Jinty (47324) was left on a 2 coach shuttle service the whole day between bury and ramsbottom the other engines (minus gothenburg) were hauling the main passenger services making many firsts or first in whiles for instance duke of gloucester meeting and double heading with oliver cromwell which was also reunited with 44871 and 2 MK1s from 1968 and the 1T57 15 guinee special
gothenburg was at rawtenstall for the entire day offering driving sessions which costed £10 a go. i had a go and have to say i had a fantastic time at the controls of gothenburg after the drive you are presented with a certificate to say you've driven gothenburg. this was my first ever drive of an engine in real life (i say this because i play microsoft's train simulator and if i'm honest i drove better in real life compared to on the game not bad for my first attempt)
this was ofcourse my first visit to the line in over 2 years and not muchhas changed and even though i missed a connection on the way home but with the help of east coast trains i got home safe
in all i rate this event 8 1/2 out of 10 with the only bad point i would put in being that the toilets wouldn't flush and there was no water to wash my hands
(VERY UNSANITARY GUYS!)
